Choose standalone security-deposit links when your boat bookings, fleet availability and handovers already work in another system. Choose a rental suite when you also need those operations connected. In either case, reject a deposit workflow whose actual authorization deadline cannot cover return and inspection.

This guide is for leisure-boat rental operators buying a collection workflow. A booking advance pays toward the hire; a damage security deposit covers agreed exposure. Neither is automatically insurance, and a card hold does not guarantee recovery of every loss.

Decide which business problem the software must solve

Booqable's boat-rental offer targets bookings and equipment operations as well as payments. SunSea Hub addresses boat-management workflows, while RentalTide markets booking, waiver and related rental functions. Inspect a demo and quote for the actual deposit behavior; these are alternatives to evaluate, not products we installed or scored.

A payment link does not become a fleet manager. Likewise, buying a suite does not remove card-network deadlines.

Hold, charge or insurance: keep the promises separate

A hold reserves eligible card funds; a captured deposit takes money and may later require a refund. Insurance or a damage-waiver arrangement has its own terms, exclusions and claims process. Compare these separately rather than labeling all three “deposit protection.”

Stripe's authorization documentation describes expiry and the actual capture deadline. Online card windows vary by network and transaction type; some eligible extended authorizations exist. Use the deadline returned for the specific payment, not a universal seven- or thirty-day promise. Other providers have different rules. A released hold is also different from a refund of a captured charge, and issuer display timing can differ.

Use an inspection-deadline worksheet before buying

The following hypothetical schedule uses elapsed hours in one time zone without a daylight-saving change. Add an assumed six-hour operating buffer. It is a planning aid, not a provider guarantee.

ScenarioAuthorization to decisionWith six-hour buffer
Authorize Friday 10:00; return Monday 10:00; inspect Monday 16:0078 hours84 hours
Authorize Wednesday 10:00 for the same Friday departure and Monday inspection126 hours132 hours
Same early authorization; surveyor can only decide the following Wednesday 16:00174 hours180 hours

The calculation is authorization-to-decision time plus buffer, compared with the actual remaining validity. An illustrative 168-hour window would cover the first two scenarios but not the third. That does not mean the card you authorize will have 168 hours. A provider's broader advertised maximum is not proof of eligibility.

Ask the vendor how staff see deadlines, handle late returns and obtain a new customer-approved arrangement if a hold will not cover the trip. Do not assume a rental extension extends an authorization. Do not charge the entire hold solely because a damage quote is late.

A €1,200 hold and a €230 decision

Suppose a documented return identifies a €140 propeller repair and €90 for a missing supplied item, both covered by the agreement: €140 + €90 = €230. With a supported final partial capture, €230 is collected and the unused €970 is released. Normal wear, pre-existing damage and costs already included in the hire price should not become unexplained deductions.

Retain the booking reference, boat identity, agreed terms, matched departure/return photos and itemized calculation. These records support a decision; they do not guarantee that a disputed claim succeeds.

PayRequest's current Stripe deposit path performs one final capture, including a partial amount. You cannot capture €230 now and assume the same unused authorization will remain available for a second repair invoice later. If you need several uncertain claims over a longer period, verify a different supported arrangement before choosing the software. Do not extrapolate another provider's behavior from this Stripe implementation.

Add PayRequest where deposit collection is the missing part

PayRequest security deposits let an operator request a deposit through a hosted link, then release or capture through a supported eligible provider. Keep the existing booking and inspection responsibilities assigned. Confirm provider eligibility, actual validity and current pricing for your account before a customer relies on the arrangement.

Create one deposit linked to a real booking reference and clearly state the amount, reasons for capture and return-review process. Confirm that the operator can make the final decision within the authorization period. If the requirement is a full fleet system or insurance, buy that separately rather than expecting a deposit link to supply it.

Editorial note: AI assisted this update. Official provider sources and PayRequest's deposit implementation were reviewed on 18 October 2026. The schedule and settlement are original hypothetical examples; no live authorization, marina test, legal outcome or customer recovery is claimed.
