You can sell a Figma UI kit directly when the product is more than a public duplicate link. Package a versioned buyer copy, define the seat and client-use license, show what is editable, and release access only after payment succeeds.
This workflow is for independent interface designers selling original component libraries, app kits and design systems. It does not cover reselling community files, copied brand systems or assets whose licenses prohibit redistribution.
Choose Native Community or Direct Checkout
Figma currently supports paid Community resources for approved individual creators, but its official selling guidance says new paid-file creators are not being approved at the time of writing. Figma also says creators may use a third-party payment site.
| Decision | Figma paid Community | Direct product page |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery | Community audience | Your own audience |
| Checkout and delivery | Managed by Figma | Managed by your workflow |
| License choices | Figma resource terms | Your clearly presented license |
| Buyer relationship | Platform-controlled | Direct order record |
| Tax responsibility | Marketplace handles covered sales tax | Seller determines obligations |
This is an operational comparison, not tax or legal advice. Confirm current terms for your account and buyer locations.
Build a UI-Kit Release Manifest
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Release | Fintech Mobile Kit 1.2 |
| Figma version tested | Current desktop and browser versions, dated |
| Included | 84 components, variables, icons, 12 screens |
| Libraries | Named fonts, icon sets and image sources |
| License | One user / team seats / client output |
| Known limits | No code components; desktop breakpoints excluded |
| Delivery | Versioned .fig export or protected duplication instructions |
The manifest is the reproducible evidence for this article. It prevents “complete design system” from meaning only detached screens.
Test the Buyer Copy
Duplicate or import the retail copy into a clean account. Check that components remain connected, variants and properties work, variables resolve, fonts have legitimate sources, prototype links stay inside the file, and no private client pages or comments remain.
Build one new screen without your working library. If that requires undocumented local styles, hidden assets or an undisclosed paid font, the package is not ready.
Define What the License Allows
Separate these permissions: the buyer's own product, client deliverables, teammate sharing, finished screenshots and source-component redistribution. Commercial use does not automatically permit resale of the editable kit. List every third-party asset and whether it is included, replaceable or preview-only.
Connect Checkout to Versioned Delivery
- Create a product page with real component and screen previews.
- Display the manifest and license before checkout.
- Upload the tested .fig package or protected duplication instructions.
- Connect Stripe, Mollie or PayPal through your eligible account.
- Release the buyer copy only after successful payment.
- Store the order, release version, license and delivery event together.
PayRequest's template-selling page is the closest destination. Its digital-product workflow can deliver a protected file after confirmed payment; the creator remains responsible for access design, taxes and license terms.
Run a Clean Purchase Test
Order with a new email address. Confirm pending or failed payment reveals no paid file, successful payment delivers the correct release, and a clean Figma account can build the test screen. Save the date and results beside the manifest.
When that passes, sell your Figma UI kit with PayRequest.
Figma's current guidance says creators may use a third-party payment site. You still need rights to every asset and a delivery method that does not expose the paid source publicly.
Use the route tested in a clean account. A versioned .fig export is easier to archive; a duplication route is simpler but must not expose a public editable master.
State seats, client work, finished-product use, team sharing, updates and whether editable source redistribution is prohibited.
