A customer can often pay a Revolut merchant payment link without owning a Revolut account, provided the hosted checkout offers cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay or another method available to that customer. That is different from a personal Revolut request or Revolut.me link, where non-Revolut access, card limits and signup prompts can vary.

The safest answer is therefore not simply “yes.” First identify which kind of link the merchant sent and inspect the payment methods shown on the actual checkout.

Three Revolut Links That People Confuse

Link or flowMain jobCan a non-Revolut customer pay?
Personal request or Revolut.me linkRequest money between individualsSometimes, subject to the available card flow and limits
Revolut Business Merchant payment linkAccept a customer paymentYes when the checkout offers an eligible card or wallet method
Payout linkSend money to a recipientIt is not a customer-payment link

Revolut's payment-link versus payout-link guide makes the direction explicit: a merchant payment link receives money from customers, while a payout link sends money to someone.

How a Non-Revolut Customer Pays

For a Revolut Business Merchant payment link, the buyer opens the secure hosted payment page and selects one of the methods presented for that checkout. Revolut's business payment-link page lists card payments and may also offer Apple Pay or Google Pay depending on eligibility, device, region and merchant settings.

A practical buyer flow is:

  1. Open the merchant's real payment URL.
  2. Verify the business name, amount, currency and description.
  3. Choose a card or supported wallet instead of account-to-account Revolut Pay.
  4. Complete any bank authentication or 3D Secure challenge.
  5. Wait for the hosted checkout's final result rather than trusting a screenshot or message.

The buyer should never send a card number, one-time code or password to the merchant. Those details belong only in the secure provider checkout.

Why a Buyer May Still See a Signup Prompt

A signup prompt does not always mean every Revolut link requires an account. Common explanations include:

  • the link is a personal request rather than a Merchant payment page;
  • the sender reached a limit for receiving card-funded personal requests;
  • the chosen payment method is Revolut account-to-account payment;
  • the buyer's card, country or currency is not eligible;
  • the Merchant checkout has no alternative method enabled for that device or region;
  • the link expired, was cancelled or reached its reuse limit.

Revolut's personal-link guidance notes that non-Revolut card requests can carry limits and that a sender may be asked to create an account after a limit is reached. Do not generalize that personal-link behavior to every Business Merchant checkout.

Buyer Troubleshooting Decision Tree

Use this sequence instead of retrying the same payment repeatedly:

What you seeNext check
Card or wallet option appearsUse it and complete the issuer authentication step
Only “Pay with Revolut” appearsAsk the merchant whether card checkout is enabled or request another provider
Forced account signupConfirm whether the URL is a personal request or merchant checkout
Card is declinedCheck issuer approval, billing details, currency and 3D Secure; do not keep rapid-retrying
Amount or business name is wrongStop and ask the merchant for a corrected link
Payment completed but merchant sees unpaidGive the merchant the time, amount and provider reference; do not pay twice

Merchants should keep at least one alternative payment provider available until they have tested the relevant buyer countries and devices.

How PayRequest Presents Revolut Pay

PayRequest connects to each merchant's own approved Revolut Merchant account. On an eligible simple payment page, the Revolut Pay option appears after the buyer provides a valid amount, name and email. The checkout can then use Revolut Pay and the methods enabled for that merchant connection.

After payment, PayRequest does not rely only on the browser return. It verifies signed webhook events, retrieves the Revolut order server-side and updates the matching transaction idempotently. This gives the merchant a transaction record even when the buyer closes the browser after authorization.

The current first phase is deliberately limited to one-time amounts on simple payment pages. Product URLs, subscriptions, deposits and existing invoice checkouts do not yet display Revolut Pay.

Merchant Launch Test for Buyers Without Revolut

Before advertising “no Revolut account required,” run a reproducible check:

  1. Open the public payment page in a private browser window where no Revolut session exists.
  2. Enter a small valid amount and realistic customer details.
  3. Record which methods appear on desktop and mobile.
  4. Complete a small card or wallet payment where practical.
  5. Match the final PayRequest transaction to the Revolut Merchant order.
  6. Repeat for the main buyer country or device you serve.

Do not claim universal card or wallet availability from one successful test. Payment methods can change with merchant eligibility, buyer location, currency, device and risk checks.

Which Link Should a Business Share?

Use a Revolut Business Merchant link when a Revolut-hosted payment page and its dashboard are enough. Use a PayRequest page when you want the Revolut connection alongside other providers in the same payment-page workflow, with PayRequest transaction handling and a consistent public page.

If the buyer cannot use the Revolut method shown, offer an enabled alternative such as Mollie, Stripe, PayPal or Payoneer instead of asking the customer to open an account they do not want.

Explore the Revolut Pay connection or follow the Revolut Pay setup guide. PayRequest is free to start and charges 2% per successful payment, capped at €25 per transaction, in addition to the connected provider's fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pay a Revolut Business payment link without Revolut?

Often yes. A Revolut Business Merchant checkout can offer cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay or other eligible methods. Availability depends on the merchant, buyer location, currency, device and provider checks.

Why does a Revolut link ask me to create an account?

The link may be a personal request, the sender may have reached a non-Revolut card-request limit, or the selected flow may require Revolut account payment. Ask the sender for a Merchant card checkout or another payment option.

Is Revolut.me the same as a merchant payment link?

No. Revolut.me is associated with personal-style payment requests. A Business Merchant payment link creates a hosted customer checkout tied to merchant payment processing and orders.

Does PayRequest require the customer to have Revolut?

Not necessarily. On eligible PayRequest pages, checkout uses the methods enabled for the connected Revolut Merchant account. Merchants should test the exact buyer country and device before promising a particular non-Revolut method.
