What is Pix?

Brazil's dominant instant payment system

Pix is a real-time payment system built and run by Brazil's Central Bank, available 24/7/365 with funds settling in seconds. Instead of an account number, Brazilians pay using a 'chave Pix' (Pix key) — a CPF/CNPJ, email, phone number, or random key tied to your bank account. It has overtaken cards and bank transfers as Brazil's most-used payment method, and is free for individuals to use. For businesses working with Brazilian clients, Pix is often the fastest and most familiar way to collect payment.

Who is this for?

International freelancers and agencies with Brazilian clients, businesses selling to customers in Brazil, and anyone who works with the Brazilian diaspora worldwide. If your clients are based in Brazil, there is a strong chance they already use Pix daily and prefer it over international card payments or wire transfers.

How Pix works with PayRequest

01

Add your Pix key

Go to Settings → Payment Providers → Digital Wallets. Find Pix and enter your Pix key — CPF/CNPJ, email, phone number, or random key, whichever you've registered with your Brazilian bank.

02

Enable on your payment page

Toggle Pix on. It appears as a payment option on your payment page immediately, alongside any other methods you have active.

03

Client pays via Pix

Your client taps the Pix button, opens their bank app, scans the QR code or enters your Pix key, and sends the payment — it settles in seconds.

04

Client confirms and you verify

After sending, the client clicks 'I have paid' on your payment page. You check your bank account for the incoming Pix transfer before delivering.

Frequently asked questions

Does PayRequest verify the Pix payment automatically?
No. Pix payments happen in the client's bank app, outside PayRequest. Always check your bank account before delivering your work. The 'I have paid' button records the client's confirmation, not the actual transfer.
Can international clients send Pix to me?
Pix is a Brazilian domestic payment system. Senders need a Brazilian bank account to use it. For truly international clients, consider also offering Wise or Revolut on your payment page.
Do I need a Brazilian bank account to receive Pix?
Yes. You need a Brazilian bank or fintech account (such as Nubank, Itaú, or Mercado Pago) with a registered Pix key. If you don't have a Brazilian account, you can't receive Pix directly.
What is a Pix key?
A Pix key (chave Pix) is an identifier linked to your bank account — your CPF/CNPJ, email address, phone number, or a randomly generated key. Senders use it instead of a full account number to pay you.
How fast does Pix settle?
Pix is designed for real-time settlement, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. Most transfers complete within seconds.
Can I use Pix alongside other payment methods?
Yes. Pix appears as one option among all active payment methods on your page. Clients from outside Brazil will simply use a different method — cards, Wise, or bank transfer.
