Bitcoin and Ethereum are investment assets first and payment rails second — their value can move five to ten percent in the hours between sending and receiving a payment. USDC is different: it's a stablecoin issued by Circle and pegged one-to-one with the US dollar. Request 500 USDC for a €460 invoice, and you receive something worth €460, regardless of what the broader crypto market did that afternoon.
That's why PayRequest defaults every crypto payment request to USDC. It keeps the speed and low cost of crypto rails — without asking you to take on a position in a volatile asset just to get paid for your work.
Solana or Base — your customer picks
A single payment request can support both. Your customer pays from whichever wallet they already have installed; you receive USDC either way.

Questions, answered
How do I accept crypto payments with PayRequest?
Connect a wallet (Phantom, Solflare, MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, Backpack, or 400+ others via WalletConnect) to your PayRequest account, then generate a payment request link or add USDC as a checkout option on your payment page. Your customer pays from their own wallet — funds settle directly to yours, with nothing held by PayRequest in between.
Why does PayRequest default to USDC instead of Bitcoin or Ethereum?
USDC is a dollar-pegged stablecoin — one USDC is designed to always equal one US dollar. Bitcoin and Ethereum are volatile assets whose value can move 5–10% in the hours between sending and receiving a payment. For everyday business invoices, USDC means you request €500 worth and receive €500 worth, with no price risk in between.
What does PayRequest charge for crypto payments?
The same as every other payment method on PayRequest: 2% per successful payment, capped at €25 per transaction, with no monthly fee. Network gas is paid by the sender — around $0.00025 on Solana and under $0.01 on Base — and goes to the network, not to PayRequest.
Do I need to already own crypto to get started?
No. You only need a wallet — a free app like Phantom or Coinbase Wallet takes about two minutes to set up. You don't need to buy, hold, or trade any cryptocurrency yourself; you simply receive USDC when a customer pays, and decide afterward whether to convert it to euros or hold it.
Can AI agents pay my invoices automatically?
Yes — if you enable X402, an open protocol PayRequest supports natively. Agents discover your payment requirements via your payments.txt manifest, sign an authorization, and settle the invoice in USDC on Base without a human clicking through a checkout. It's the same payment rail, just initiated by software instead of a person.
Is receiving crypto payments safe for someone who has never used crypto before?
Yes, as long as you avoid the two most common mistakes: requesting a volatile asset (use USDC instead) and sharing a raw wallet address (use a payment request link instead, which encodes the correct network so funds can't be sent to the wrong chain). PayRequest's links are built specifically to remove both of those failure points.
