Which 3D format should you sell in?

Buyers abandon a listing fast when they can't tell if a file will even open in their software. List every format you export, and say exactly what it's for.

FBX
Game engines and animation pipelines
Unity, Unreal Engine, Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D
OBJ
Static meshes with no rigging or animation
Blender, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, most 3D-printing slicers
GLTF / GLB
Web, AR, and real-time viewers
Three.js, Babylon.js, Sketchfab embeds, iOS AR Quick Look
Blend
Buyers who want the full native scene
Blender only (readable from the version you saved in, or newer)
STL
3D printing
Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, and any slicer

Built for how 3D artists actually sell

License clarity, format flexibility, and no sliding commission scale that punishes your best month.

Put topology, poly count, and texture resolution directly in your product description so buyers know exactly what they're getting before checkout.

All Formats, One Listing

Bundle FBX, OBJ, GLTF, and Blend into a single ZIP, or sell format-specific versions separately — no restriction on file type, up to 25GB per upload.

"On TurboSquid I was stuck at the 40% non-exclusive payout rate — I kept less than half of every sale unless I signed away exclusivity to SquidGuild. I moved my archviz furniture packs to my own payrequest.me link and now I keep 98% of every sale instead of 40%, and I still list on TurboSquid separately for the extra reach."

Frequently asked questions

How much more do I keep selling directly instead of through CGTrader or TurboSquid?+
CGTrader's non-exclusive payout starts at 60% and scales up to 85% based on your rolling 12-month sales volume — meaning a 15-40% commission depending on how much you sell. TurboSquid's non-exclusive rate pays just 40% (a 60% commission), rising to 60-80% only if you join SquidGuild exclusively. PayRequest charges 2% capped at €25 regardless of volume, on top of your payment provider's own processing fee.
Which 3D file format should I include?+
FBX for anyone working in a game engine or animation pipeline, OBJ as a safe static-mesh fallback that opens almost anywhere, GLTF/GLB if buyers will use it on the web or in AR, and your native Blend file only for buyers who specifically want the full editable scene. Bundling FBX, OBJ, and Blend together covers the vast majority of buyers.
Should I list a personal-use or commercial license?+
Offer both if you can. A personal-use license (portfolio, hobby projects) is priced lower and sells more often; a commercial or extended license (client work, resale inside another product, game-ready use) is priced 2-4x higher. State the terms directly on the product page so there's no ambiguity at checkout.
Do I need to disclose poly count and texture resolution?+
Yes — it's the single most common cause of refund requests in 3D asset sales. List triangle/poly count, texture resolution (2K/4K/8K), UV layout status, and which render engine you built it for, directly in the product description.
Do I need a Sketchfab store or CGTrader account to sell 3D models?+
No. Your payrequest.me page works as a standalone storefront with no commission scale. Many sellers keep a presence on CGTrader or Sketchfab for discovery and reach, while directing their existing audience — email list, Twitter, Discord — to their own link where they keep nearly all of the sale.
