How cancellation requests work

A structured process that gives you visibility and time to act before a subscription ends.

01

Customer requests cancellation

From the customer portal, they click Cancel Subscription, select a reason (too expensive, switching provider, no longer needed, or other), and add an optional message.

02

Notice period calculated

The effective cancellation date is the later of today plus the notice period (default 30 days) or the next billing date — so the customer gets what they already paid for.

03

Support ticket created

A Cancel Subscription support request is automatically created with the reason and message, linked to the subscription. Review it from the Support Requests page.

04

Domain auto-renew disabled

If the subscription has a linked domain with auto-renew enabled, it is automatically turned off at the registrar. No manual action needed.

05

Automatic cancellation

A daily scheduled job checks for subscriptions past their effective date and cancels them automatically. The linked support request is marked as resolved.

Cancellation reasons

Understand why customers leave with structured reason collection on every cancellation request.

Too Expensive
Price is a concern for this customer
Switching Provider
Moving to a different service
No Longer Needed
Service is no longer required
Other
Custom reason with free-text message

Cancellation reasons feed into your analytics, helping you identify trends and reduce future churn.

Per-product cancellation settings
Each product has its own cancellation configuration. Fine-tune the experience for different product types.
Cancellation ModeRequest

Allow CancelEnabled

Allow PauseEnabled
Enable/disable pause button in portal

Set Cancellation Mode to Immediate if you want the old behavior where clicking cancel stops the subscription right away.

Admin controls for pending cancellations

Full control over every cancellation request from your dashboard.

Withdraw Cancellation

Cancel the request and keep the subscription active. The support request is closed and the customer continues normally.

Cancel Now

Skip the notice period and cancel the subscription immediately. Use when you've resolved the situation or agreed to early termination.

Review & Communicate

Open the linked support request to discuss the cancellation with your customer. Send retention offers or resolve issues before the effective date.

Domain Management

Automatic domain auto-renew control

When a subscription with a linked domain is cancelled, PayRequest automatically disables auto-renewal at the domain registrar (OpenProvider). No manual intervention needed.

Auto-renew disabled on cancellation request
Works with OpenProvider domain registrar
Manual re-enable if cancellation is withdrawn
Domain stays active until registration expires
Notice Period

Configurable notice periods

Don't let customers cancel on the spot. Set a notice period per product so you have time to reach out, offer alternatives, and retain the customer before the subscription ends.

1 to 365 days

Configure any notice period per product — from 1 day to a full year

Smart effective date

The effective date is the later of today + notice period or the next billing date

Customer stays active

The subscription runs normally during the notice period — no service disruption

Auto-cancellation

A daily job automatically cancels subscriptions that reach their effective date

Example: 30-day notice period

Customer requests cancellation
March 5, 2026
30 days to retain the customer
30d
Subscription cancelled automatically
April 4, 2026
