What is GCash?

The Philippines' most-used digital wallet

GCash is a mobile wallet by Globe Telecom used by over 80 million people in the Philippines. It is the country's dominant payment app β€” used for everything from grocery shopping and bill payments to freelance work and international remittances. For businesses that work with Filipino clients or the Filipino diaspora abroad, GCash is often the fastest and most familiar way to collect payment.

Who is this for?

International freelancers and agencies with Filipino clients, businesses selling to customers in the Philippines, and anyone who works with the Filipino diaspora worldwide. If your clients are based in the Philippines, there is a strong chance they already have GCash and prefer it over international card payments.

How GCash works with PayRequest

01

Add your phone number

Go to Settings β†’ Payment Providers β†’ Digital Wallets. Find GCash and enter the Philippine mobile number registered to your GCash account.

02

Enable on your payment page

Toggle GCash on. It appears as a payment option on your payment page immediately, alongside any other methods you have active.

03

Client pays in GCash

Your client taps the GCash button, opens the GCash app on their phone, enters your number, and sends the payment amount.

04

Client confirms and you verify

After sending, the client clicks 'I have paid' on your payment page. You check your GCash wallet for the incoming transfer before delivering.

Who uses GCash on PayRequest

Freelancers with Filipino clients

If you do design, development, writing, or any remote work for clients based in the Philippines, GCash is often faster and cheaper for them than international wire transfers.

Digital product sellers

Sell ebooks, templates, or online courses to the Philippine market. GCash removes the barrier of international card payments for buyers who may not have a Visa or Mastercard.

Coaches and online service providers

Accept coaching session payments, consultation fees, or course enrollments from Filipino clients. No merchant account, no international payment gateway required.

Frequently asked questions

Does PayRequest verify the GCash payment automatically?
No. GCash payments happen in the client's GCash app, outside PayRequest. Always check your GCash wallet before delivering your work. The 'I have paid' button records the client's confirmation, not the actual transfer.
Can international clients send GCash to me?
GCash is primarily a Philippine domestic app. International clients would need a GCash account linked to a Philippine mobile number. For truly international clients, consider also offering Wise or Revolut on your payment page.
Is there a transfer limit on GCash?
GCash transfer limits depend on the sender's account verification level. Fully verified GCash accounts can send up to PHP 100,000 per transaction. Always confirm the amount you received before delivering.
Do I need a Philippine phone number to receive GCash?
Yes. You need a GCash account linked to a Philippine mobile number (09XX format). If you are based outside the Philippines, you would need a Philippine SIM and GCash registration to use this feature.
Can I use GCash alongside other payment methods?
Yes. GCash appears as one option among all active payment methods on your page. Clients from outside the Philippines will simply use a different method β€” cards, Wise, or bank transfer.
