An expired rental deposit authorization cannot be captured. Confirm the live status and deadline before inspecting or collecting a documented amount. Before expiry, eligible Stripe deposits on PayRequest Business can use a merchant-requested replacement hold if the customer agreed in advance. Renewal cannot revive an expired authorization.

Renew a Stripe deposit on Business

Agree before the first authorization

For new Stripe deposits, customers can optionally agree to save their card and permit replacement holds for the same amount and booking, for up to 30 days from the first authorization. The option appears on the direct deposit authorization page and deposit product or Smart Link checkout. Leaving it unchecked does not prevent the original authorization. Existing holds without that prior consent cannot use saved-card renewal.

Request renewal in the final 48 hours

On Business, open Security Deposits → the deposit → Renew deposit authorization during the final 48 hours of an eligible hold. This is a merchant-requested action, not automatic renewal. A merchant expiry email is queued when an opted-in hold enters its final 48 hours; delivery depends on the queue and email provider.

A replacement reservation, with no capture

PayRequest requests a new reservation using the saved card. The original reservation remains until Stripe confirms the replacement and confirms cancellation of the old hold. Both reservations may briefly appear on the customer’s card. A declined replacement leaves the original hold and deadline in place. Renewal captures no funds.

If the bank requests confirmation

The business and customer receive a confirmation notice. The customer follows the confirmation link to the secure PayRequest payment page and chooses Confirm deposit renewal. From an app or custom-domain page, Open secure bank confirmation takes them there. They do not enter their card again, but the bank may still decline. Confirmation is available for up to 23 hours after the renewal request and only while enough time remains within the agreed limit. Without confirmation, the original hold is not extended.

Resolve an existing attempt before taking action

Capture and release pause while an attempt is unresolved to prevent acting on the wrong reservation. Check renewal status checks the existing attempt. Cancel renewal attempt cancels only the replacement and keeps the original hold when it is still valid. If an uncertain attempt has no saved provider reference, contact support; do not create another deposit to retry it.

The provider deadline and agreement both apply

The provider-confirmed deadline always applies. PayRequest requires at least seven days remaining within the 30-day agreement before requesting another authorization. A final short extension may therefore be unavailable. A replacement that does not extend the original deadline or would exceed the agreement is canceled. This is not a guaranteed continuous 30-day hold or an extension of the same authorization.

Withdraw permission or change plans

Use Withdraw permission for further renewals if the customer withdraws consent. This also cancels an unresolved replacement when its exact provider reference is available. It does not refund a charge or release a previously completed hold. Existing holds remain manageable after a plan change; new renewals require Business.

Plan inspection around the confirmed deadline

Record the booking, handover condition, return time, inspection evidence, justified amount and current provider status. Complete inspection with a buffer. For an expired hold, finish the evidence review and agree an appropriate new payment or authorization route with the customer; do not silently charge them or capture a placeholder amount to beat expiry.
