Find the deposit. Choose the amount. Check the result.

Try this illustrated walkthrough with fictional data. It makes no payment and does not access your account. In the app, the final Capture button charges the customer.

Security Deposits

To partially capture a security deposit in PayRequest, open Security Deposits, click the underlined customer name or View Deposit, and choose Partial Capture on the detail page. Enter the justified amount and review the confirmation. In the current Stripe deposit flow, the final Capture action charges that amount and releases the rest; you cannot make a second capture from the same authorization.

For example, a fictional €350 authorization with €150 in supported costs ends as €150 captured and €200 released. The released €200 is not a balance you can collect later. Determine the total amount before confirming.

Where to click after authorization

  1. Open Security Deposits. Sign in to the correct business account and open Security Deposits at payrequest.app/deposits.
  2. Open the customer name. Click the underlined customer name or View Deposit. Check the booking reference, provider status and capture deadline.
  3. Choose Partial Capture. Choose Partial Capture on the deposit detail page. Enter the supported amount and review what will be charged and released before confirming.
  4. Review the final result. After a successful Stripe capture, review Captures and the final status. The unused amount is released; it is no longer available for a second capture.

Before you capture: match the booking and the evidence

Check the booking reference, customer, currency, provider, authorization status and deadline. Then match the proposed charge to the agreed terms, inspection record and itemized cost. A reservation of €350 is not permission to charge €350 automatically.

In the fictional example, the inspection supports a €100 replacement item and €50 of agreed labour. Those two documented amounts total €150. They are illustrative figures, not recommended fees. Keep the explanation and evidence with your business records and tell the customer whether a charge is proposed or already completed.

If several items return at different times, complete the partial-return settlement review before finalizing the authorization. Do not capture the first small cost on the assumption that the remaining hold will stay open.

What happens to the remaining €200?

Settlement recordAmount
Original authorization€350
Final partial capture€150
Released authorization€200
Available for a second Stripe capture€0

The €200 release is not a refund of a completed €200 payment: that part of the authorization was never captured. The customer's bank controls when and how the release appears. Do not promise an immediate visible balance change.

Stripe documents a separate multicapture capability for eligible payments, but PayRequest's current Stripe security-deposit flow uses a final capture. Provider support in general is not proof that a feature is enabled for this deposit. With other providers, confirm the supported account and payment-method behavior before planning repeated captures.

Pending in PayRequest versus pending at the bank

A pending deposit in PayRequest means there is no confirmed authorization available to capture. The newer interface distinguishes Waiting for customer, Processing authorization and Authorization attempt expired. Funds reserved is the clearer label for an authorized hold.

A customer's bank can also show an authorized hold as a pending card transaction. That bank label alone does not mean the PayRequest authorization failed. Use the merchant deposit status and its capture deadline, not a bank screenshot, to decide whether capture is available.

Check the costs before confirming

PayRequest currently charges €0 platform fee on this Stripe security-deposit capture flow. Stripe deducts its processing fee from the amount captured. This is separate from PayRequest's standard fees for ordinary payments.

Example: €350 authorized → €150 captured → €200 released. PayRequest capture fee: €0. Net proceeds: €150 minus the actual Stripe fee. Your subscription, if any, is separate.

Free currently includes 1 active security deposit and 3 new deposits per month. Unlimited deposits require an eligible Business or Growth plan. Check your dashboard for your allowance and any existing account arrangement.

Do not derive a universal Stripe rate from one payment. Use the fee details for your own Stripe account and transaction.

If the capture button is missing

Confirm that you are in the business account that owns the deposit, then open the deposit detail rather than the customer profile. A pending, expired, released or finalized Stripe deposit cannot be captured. Partial capture also needs to be enabled for the deposit configuration.

If the customer completed checkout but the status remains unresolved, contact support with the deposit reference. Do not request card numbers or ask the customer to repeat a completed payment blindly. If a capture result is uncertain, check the capture history and Stripe payment before trying again.

A checklist before the final click

  • Correct customer, business account, booking and currency.
  • Confirmed authorization with a deadline that has not passed.
  • Supported total backed by the agreement and inspection evidence.
  • Amount charged and amount released checked separately.
  • Provider fee distinguished from PayRequest fee and subscription cost.
  • One final Stripe capture understood before confirming.

Use the security-deposit feature page for the overview, or create a deposit link with Stripe for setup.

Questions about deposit capture

Can I make two partial captures from one Stripe deposit?

No. PayRequest's current Stripe deposit flow makes one final capture. A partial capture releases the unused amount. Determine the total supported amount before confirming.

Does Pending prevent me from capturing?

Yes. A pending PayRequest deposit is not a confirmed authorization. Capture becomes available after successful authorization and only before its deadline.

Where do I find the capture button?

Open Security Deposits in your PayRequest business account, click the underlined customer name or View Deposit, then choose Partial Capture on the detail page. Review the amount before the final Capture confirmation.

What is the PayRequest fee on a €100 Stripe deposit capture?

The current Stripe security-deposit capture flow charges €0 PayRequest platform fee. Stripe processing fees still apply. Ordinary payments and subscription charges follow their own pricing.
