What is Bancontact?

Bancontact is Belgium's national payment scheme — used by 85% of Belgian online shoppers and 16 million Bancontact cardholders.

Bancontact is the Belgian equivalent of iDEAL: a bank-app QR-code checkout that essentially every Belgian consumer already has on their phone. When a customer opens a Bancontact payment link, they scan the displayed QR with their banking app — KBC, BNP Paribas Fortis, Belfius, ING and most other Belgian banks all support it — and confirm in-app. The funds settle in seconds.

With PayRequest, you create a Bancontact payment link in seconds and share it through any channel: WhatsApp, email, SMS, Instagram, a printed flyer or a restaurant table. The link auto-detects Belgian customers and shows Bancontact first; non-Belgian visitors see iDEAL, card, Apple Pay, SEPA or PayPal instead — one URL fits every customer.

Bancontact fees are typically a flat €0.39 per transaction via Mollie — much cheaper than card processing for the Belgian market. Because the bank authenticates every payment, chargebacks effectively don't exist. PayRequest charges 0% on top.

FAQ

Bancontact payment links

How does a Bancontact payment link work?
Create a payment link with PayRequest. The Belgian customer opens it, scans the QR with their banking app (or selects their bank), and confirms inside their app. Funds arrive in seconds.
What does Bancontact cost?
Bancontact via Mollie costs from €0.39 per transaction. Stripe charges around 1.4% + €0.25. PayRequest charges 0% on top — €20/month for the full billing CRM.
Which banks support Bancontact?
Every major Belgian bank: KBC, BNP Paribas Fortis, Belfius, ING Belgium, Argenta, Crelan, Beobank, Axa Bank, Hello bank! and most others. Together they cover virtually every Belgian consumer.
Is Bancontact the same as Payconiq?
Yes — they merged. The QR-code experience is the unified Bancontact / Payconiq flow. Customers scan, confirm in-app, paid. Your PayRequest link just shows 'Bancontact' as the option.
Can non-Belgian customers pay my Bancontact link?
Yes — your single PayRequest link automatically shows the right method for each customer. Belgians see Bancontact first; everyone else sees card, Apple Pay, iDEAL, SEPA or PayPal.
